9 September 2003
Dr. Clayton D. Mote, Jr., President
University of Maryland, College Park
Main Administration Building
Campus 5025
Dear President Mote,
This letter will follow on earlier communications from your Commission on Disability Issues regarding full accessibility to the Main Administration Building at College Park.
I wrote in November, 2001, expressing the Commission’s urgent wish that such access be provided by the installation of an accessible elevator in the building. The problem has, of course, existing for much longer than that.
At the Commission’s meeting on September 4, we were shown drawings of two excellent suggestions for the location of such an elevator. I write to express the Commission’s enthusiasm for either of the proposals along with the Commission’s fervent wish that movement toward the construction of this important requirement be expedited.
We reiterate our belief that the Main Administration Building must be accessible for all members of the Campus Community at the earliest possible moment.
Sincerely yours,
Ralph Bennett
Prof., Chair
President’s Commission on Disability Issues
