Installation of chair lifts, ramp, and an ADA compliant elevator.
|
$ 112,500
|
These modifications are included in the scope of the $6M Taliaferro/Key
Building Renovation Project which is $568,760 over budget. Utilization
of these Access UM funds would help bring the project into budget. These
modifications are required because the renovation project involves connecting
the two buildings. However, the finished floor elevations in four areas
do not match. Three chair lifts and one ramp is required for individuals
with disabilities to be able to move from one building to another. In
addition, the building does not have an ADA compliant elevator. The
total cost of the ADA modifications is $930,000.

If this project is not partially funded by the FY 2003 Access UM program,
the ADA modifications will be completely funded as part of the on-going
Taliaferro/Key Building Renovation Project. However, elimination of other
desired scope items would be required from that project. Specifically,
the conversion of the existing HVAC system from a two-pipe to a four-pipe
configuration would not be completed on the lower three floors of the
west wing. The result is that maintenance of a redundant HVAC system
would be required until the piping system was converted.

Provide an accessible elevator.
|
$ 112,500
|
As the facility housing the primary administrative functions for the
entire University, it is important for the facility to be accessible to
all faculty, staff, and students, as well as the general public. However,
currently, only the ground floor is accessible to individuals with disabilities.
This project will provide for the design of an accessible elevator providing
access to the upper floors of the building. Depending upon the Cabinet's
decision on the location, the total estimated project cost is $730,000
to $900,000. Due to the limited available funding, cost sharing is proposed
over a period of four fiscal years with construction beginning in FY 2005.
