II-1.02(A) UMCP Procedures for Verification of Faculty Academic Credentials

APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AUGUST 1991

UMCP follows the guidelines set forth in the System Policy II.1.02 concerning the verification of faculty academic credentials.

  1. Assistant Professor

    Prior to an initial appointment to any faculty rank of assistant professor, academic credentials must be verified in the following manner:

    1. A curriculum vitae, certified by the prospective faculty member, must accompany the recommendation for appointment.

    2. The chair of the Search Committee or a designee shall write to the institution that awarded the highest degree to the prospective faculty member to obtain either certification of satisfactory completion of degree requirements or certification of award of doctoral degree as appropriate.

  2. Associate and Full Professor

    Prior to an initial appointment to the rank of associate or full professor, academic credentials must be verified in the following manner:

    1. A curriculum vitae, certified by the prospective faculty member, must accompany the recommendation for appointment.

    2. The chair of the Search Committee or a designee may either:

      1. write to the institution that awarded the highest degree to the prospective faculty member to obtain certification of award of doctoral degree, or

      2. obtain letters of recommendation from recognized experts that attest to the prospective faculty member's qualifications.
