President's Climate Commitment
C. D. Mote, Jr.
President, University of Maryland

President Mote became a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment in May 2007. Through the commitment, the University pledges to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from all campus operations and activities and move toward the goal of carbon neutrality. More than 600 institutions have joined the commitment and all University System of Maryland institutions are participating.

The University has developed a Climate Action Plan for how it will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and foster additional education and research focused on climate change, energy, and sustainability. Beginning in the Fall 2009 the University Senate will consider endorsement of this plan.
