Jury's verdict today / Dec. 18, 2019

Dear University of Maryland community,

Our hearts are with the family of 2nd Lt. Richard Collins III on this day, when the jury's verdict of first-degree murder marked two and a half years of seeking justice for his killing on our campus.

Revisiting the tragic murder over the course of the trial brought troubling memories and emotions for many members of our campus community. During this difficult time, I urge us to support each other and seek help as needed from available resources, such as the Counseling Center and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

The time will come when the life of Lt. Collins will be permanently memorialized on our campus, upon receiving the blessing to proceed. Until then, please join me in continuing to keep the Collins family in our thoughts and prayers.
