A Moment of Silence Today, 1 PM

Dear University of Maryland community,

As we begin today, at 1 PM, the spring commencement exercises to celebrate the graduating class 2017 of the University of Maryland, I would like to ask all of us, wherever we are, to please join in a moment of silence to mourn and honor a Bowie State University student, who lost his life in a senseless and unprovoked assault here on our campus, yesterday morning.

On behalf of our entire community, I want to express our profound sorrow and anguish, for this horrific tragedy.

We are still in shock that a young man, so full of promise, should have his life cut short, so suddenly.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and with the entire Bowie State University community.

Would you please join in this moment of reflection ....

In the words of the psalmist, we lift our eyes unto the hills, from whence comes our help. May this student rest in Heaven, now and evermore.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wallace D. Loh
President, University of Maryland
