In 2008, the University of Maryland developed a comprehensive and bold 10-year strategic plan, “Transforming Maryland: Higher Expectations.” In the years since, we have experienced a remarkable rise in accomplishment and reputation. By any measure, our University is now one of the nation’s front-rank public research universities. New opportunities now promise even greater attainments, and we will continue on our path to be considered “equal to the best” among all universities in the world.

Conversation of the Month

Each month focuses attention on different dimensions of a thriving workplace.

October’s focus is autonomy, which is highlighted by the following survey questions:

Q02: I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right.
Q03: At work, I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day.
Q07: At work, my opinions seem to count.
Q08: The mission or purpose of my organization makes me feel my job is important.

Education, "dreamers", and DACA

Launch of the “Do Good” Initiative

I am pleased to announce the launch of a campus-wide “Do Good” initiative.

This initiative aims to educate and inspire a Do Good generation of students to apply their education, skills, and values to make an impact on the great societal challenges of our time — such as poverty, health inequity, injustice, food and water security, and climate change. It is rooted in our land-grant mission of putting knowledge into practice for social and economic betterment.
