In 2008, the University of Maryland developed a comprehensive and bold 10-year strategic plan, “Transforming Maryland: Higher Expectations.” In the years since, we have experienced a remarkable rise in accomplishment and reputation. By any measure, our University is now one of the nation’s front-rank public research universities. New opportunities now promise even greater attainments, and we will continue on our path to be considered “equal to the best” among all universities in the world.

Proposal to Study UMD-UMB Merger

As you may know by now, Maryland Senate President Mike Miller recently proposed that the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents "study and ... develop a plan to merge the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) ... in a manner that does not eliminate but rather expands resources and opportunities at each of the campuses under a single University of Maryland."

Wallace Loh Inauguration

Last week, I formally accepted the honor and the responsibility to serve as the 33rd president of the University of Maryland. I assume this office with humility, because I stand on the shoulders of the giants who preceded me, Dan Mote and Brit Kiran.
