Sexual Harassment

Respect, diversity, and inclusion are core values of the University of Maryland. Very recently, the University Police were notified of two separate incidents of bias and hate.

University House Invitation

My wife Barbara and I will host several open houses of the nearly completed University House. The dates, to be posted widely, will be in October and November. We cordially invite you to come visit "our" new house. 

MPower Sparks Innovation

We are writing to inform you of the latest positive development in the University of Maryland: MPowering the State initiative between the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Today we are pleased to announce that James L. Hughes, MBA, chief enterprise and economic development officer and vice president at UMB, has been named director of UM Ventures, the ambitious joint research commercialization effort of the two universities and a central part of Powering the State. 

Maryland To Join B1G 10 Conference

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland has endorsed strongly our application to join the Big Ten conference, starting in academic year 2014-15.

Commission on Big Ten/CIC Integration Formed

On July 1, 2014, the University of Maryland will become a member the Big Ten Conference. On July 1, 2013, we will become a member of the academic consortium of Big Ten universities, known as the Committee for Institutional Cooperation (CIC).

Great Expectations Campaign Reaches $1B Goal

In late 2006, the University of Maryland publicly launched the $1 billion Great Expectations campaign.

Support for Gov. O’Malley’s Budget

Once again, Governor O’Malley has solidified his reputation as the Education Governor.  His budget for the coming year provides support for expanded collaborations with University of Maryland, Baltimore, critical funding to expand STEM programs, and additional financial support for innovation, entrepreneurship and technology commercialization initiatives. 

Tragedy

Today is a tragic day for our beloved University community. We are all shocked and deeply saddened by this morning's events. I extend my sincere sympathy and prayers to the families and friends of the victims, all University of Maryland students.

Memorial Service

Those directly touched by this tragedy hurt the most; but all of us are shocked and deeply saddened.
