UMD-UMB Merger: Open Forum

Dear University of Maryland community:

As you know, the Maryland General Assembly requested that the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents (BOR) undertake a study on merging the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) with the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

Congratulations to two UMD professors

We are pleased to share with you the terrific news that the National Academy of Engineering elected to membership two UMD professors, Antonio Busalacchi (Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, CMNS) and James E. Hubbard, Jr. (Aerospace Engineering, A. J. Clark School of Engineering).

Day One

After a wonderful weekend of Homecoming activities, today I start my first official day as your president. I am honored and humbled to serve. I am honored because the University of Maryland is one of the great research universities in the country.

Proposal to Study UMD-UMB Merger

As you may know by now, Maryland Senate President Mike Miller recently proposed that the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents "study and ... develop a plan to merge the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) ... in a manner that does not eliminate but rather expands resources and opportunities at each of the campuses under a single University of Maryland."

Wallace Loh Inauguration

Last week, I formally accepted the honor and the responsibility to serve as the 33rd president of the University of Maryland. I assume this office with humility, because I stand on the shoulders of the giants who preceded me, Dan Mote and Brit Kiran.
